We, Calicut City Service Cooperative Bank, had obtained the vision to establish the Cancer Hospital from our Chairman’s inspiration. He told us this about 6 years ago in every director board and general Body meeting of our members.
In order to fulfill his ambition, the director board of the bank held on 15/03/2011 decided to form a charitable society for the help of poor cancer patients and apply to the minister for Co-Operation Sri. G. Sudhakaran and the Registrar of Co-Operative societies, to give permission for this.
On 18/03/2011 we had advertised in News papers for the requirement of Land to start a hospital under this charitable society. We had received 3 quotations for this purpose. Among this we had selected a suitable location for this purpose, which is situated 22 kilometers east from Calicut city, located at Chooloor, in Chathamangalam Panchayath, which is 3 kilometers south east of Calicut NIT (Former REC). This is a very beautiful place surrounded by various hills in Chathamangalam panchayath. Formerly there was an amusement park namely Za-Lagoon.
On 20/03/2011 we had convened a meeting of interested persons to form a charitable society for the help of poor cancer patients. The memorandum of association and the rules and regulations of the society was discussed. In the meeting we had formed an executive committee to function the society with the members.
In that meeting the executive committee had resolved to apply to the District Registrar to register the society with the above discussed rules and regulations.
On 30/03/2011 the society was registered with Regd. No.S.273/2011 under the societies registration Act XXI of 1860.
The executive committee held On 16/04/2011 had approved the memberships of the executive members. Authorized Dr. Aysha Guharaj, Dr. Narayanankutti Warrier and Dr. Suresh Puthalath to approve the logo of the society. Decided to purchase the above mentioned land for 6.3 Crore rupees. Appointed M/s. Seagull Capital Partners (Mednova) as project consultant. Appointed M/s. Spreads Cadd to survey the property. To design hospital We had decided to invite expression of interest from the following famous Architects.
For the work of the 1st stage bank had given a loan for 10 Crore Rupees.
Appointed M/s. Ranjith Karhikeyan Associates as our Chartered Accountant.
On 30/04/2011, we had received the permission from the Registrar of co-operative societies side letter No- CP(1)12285/2011 dated 30/04/2011 with a direction to include an Additional Registrar of Co-operative Department and an additional director of Health Department to the Administration / Executive committee. They also gave permission to avail loan from Calicut City Service Co-operative Bank.
On 04/05/2011 we had signed the purchase agreement with the Partners of M/s. Za-Lagoon Amusement park & Resorts Pvt Ltd, and gave an advance amount of Rupees One crore to them.
During the executive committee meeting held on 05/05/2011, the Chairman had explained his talk with the Panchayath President. He had convened a meeting of the residents at Chooloor AUP School at 3 pm on 22/05/2011. As per the order of Registrar of co-operative societies to include an Additional Registrar of co-operative Department and an Additional director of Health Department to the Administration / Executive committee, we had decided to amend the byelaw to include the clause.
Appointed M/s. Vigilant Eye Security Services for the Security Service of the property. Appointed M/s. Zabir Ehsan Associates for Valuation of the property.Decided to construct temporary office at that property .Entrusted Er. N.Ramachandran, Er.P. Venugopalan and Smt. Divya Sudheer for the supervision of works at the site. Purchased Computer and Furniture for the office. Decided to take telephone connection and Electricity for the office.
Decided to apply to the bank for enhancing the loan amount of Rupees 10 crores to 25 crores .
The executive committee held on 28/05/2011, decided to give an amount of Rupees One Crore to M/s. Za-Lagoon Amusement park & Resorts Pvt Ltd as the 2nd instalment.
Decided to give contract to M/s. Zenda Concepts to design the website.

Kozhikode, May 6: THE HINDU BUSINESS LINE
The Calicut City Service Cooperative Bank has finalised plans to set up a Rs 500-crore cancer hospital and research centre at Chathamangalam, near the National Institute of Technology – Calicut (NITC).
The bank has already registered a charitable society, Cancer and Allied Ailments Research (Care) Foundation, for the purpose. It will provide a loan of Rs 20 crore initially for the project and the remaining funds will be raised from institutions and individuals from both within the country and abroad.
Mr C.N. Vijayakrishnan, Chairman of the bank, and Mr T.N. Velayudhan and Mr P.A. Jaiprakash, Directors, told newspersons here on Thursday that the Reserve Bank of India was approached for getting the approval for securing funds from abroad. This was the first time that such an ambitious project has been planned in the cooperative sector in the State, they said.
The bank has already purchased 15.5 acres at a cost of Rs 5 crore for setting up the hospital. The first phase of the project, featuring a 100-bed hospital, is slated to be completed by 2013. The hospital will be equipped with world-class equipment for early detection of the disease.
After completion in 2017, the hospital will have 300 to 500 beds and a full-fledged research centre boasting all the latest facilities.
The bank authorities said that Mumbai-based Seagull Consultancy had been entrusted with the task of preparing a detailed project report, which was expected to be ready within a fortnight. Also, architects have been shortlisted for constructing the hospital.
The hospital will cater to the common man in the region, especially in Kozhikode and Malappuram districts and at least 10 per cent of the services will be provided free-of-cost to the economically backward communities.
The bank, which began operations seven years ago in rented premises, is now functioning in its own building complex. The total deposits of the bank have reached Rs 176 crore as on March 31, 2011
The executive committee held on 20/06/2011, decided to construct compound wall to the property. Decided to establish an agricultural project to add greenery to the project.
Decided to select M/s. Stapati Architects as architects of the hospital.
The executive committee held on 15/07/2011, decided to visit the recently constructed TATA MEDICAL CENTRE, at Calcutta to get a brief idea about the construction of the hospital. Decided to convene the general body of the members at 13/08/2011.
Decided to form an advisory committee of doctors. Authorised Dr.Aysha Guhraj to form the panel of Doctors for this purpose.
Now the construction is going on. The project architectural design is in the Banner of Stapati, a Joint venture of Ar. Tony Joseph from Calicut and Ar.Arun Nalappatt of Arun Nalappatt Associates of Bangalore.
On 15.8.2015 in the General Body meeting the hospital is named as MVR Cancer centre.The State government had also included the project under “Mission 676” of the cooperative sector.
